Maharashtra Education Society was established in the year 1860. This is the oldest educational society in Pune city, Maharashtra, India. Maharashtra Education Society was established by Shri. Vasudeo B. Phadke, Shri.Laxman N. Indapurkar and Shri. Waman P. Bhave.
- Like many other educational institutions in Maharashtra, this institution aimed at giving education with a national content to the young generation.
- At the time of establishment, the name of the institute was ‘Pune Native Institution
- On 27th August 1922 the name of the institution was changed to ‘ Maharashtra Education Society, Pune’
- Shri. Vasudeo Balwant Phadke, a pioneer revolutionary of the freedom movement was amongst the founder members of the MES.
